Our ethically, socially, ecologically and environmentally founded Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru trekking company is locally owned and based in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with a branch in Australia. We are duly registered company company in Tanzania with the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency and Tanzanian Revenue Authority. We hold a TALA licence to conduct Mt Kilimanjaro hikes.
Our equipment is brand new and of the highest quality. We maintain the highest standards in service delivery and our strategic partnership with Global Rescue and the flying doctors (AMREF) ensures that client’s safety needs are foremost. We maintain membership with the Tanzanian Association of Tour Operators (TATO) and Leave No Trace, who’s principles we apply to all our operations.

We have a strong business model and a strong commitment to capacity building and sharing technical expertise with our indigenous population through access to employment, training, quality living wage and improved living conditions. Labour and consumables are all sourced locally in order to ensure a sustainable and localized business model.
We pay our team members a decent living wage (this does not occur with budget operators), update equipment regularly to maintain the highest standards of customer standards and care, offer a quality menu and ensure that we meet the highest safety standards with no compromise on client or crew safety.

Joseph is happy to welcome everybody from around the world to come explore, enjoy, experience and share all the wonders found in his beautiful country Tanzania, the land of Mt Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Ngorongoro Crater and the magnificent Serengeti.
For many years Joseph has held positions in the Tanzanian tourism industry in sales and marketing and as a field coordinator and finally as an operations manager. Joseph has extensive experience with Mt Kilimanjaro hikes and safaris and an in-depth understanding of Tanzania’s Serengeti and National Parks.
While running an ecologically based Mt Kilimanjaro trekking company Joseph observed that many key factors were lacking in trekking companies. They had low quality equipment, lacked professional guides and porters, who were often mistreated, and lacked sound sustainable eco-credentials.
Joseph had a dream of establishing a sustainable, ecologically based operation that benefited his countrymen and showcased the natural resources and beauty of Tanzania.
Destiny had it that Joseph crossed paths on Mt Kilimanjaro with future business partner Roger Crawford and this formed the catalyst for a collaboration that brought together Joseph’s tourism experience and Roger’s business skills, trekking and mountaineering experience.
After extensive discussions they formulated a business plan to raise the bar and provide the highest quality, safest, ecologically sustainable Kilimanjaro trekking and safari operations in Tanzania. Joseph’s dreams were realized and Trekili Eco Expeditions began.
Roger Crawford is an active mountaineer having travelled throughout the world pursuing his mountaineering dreams including numerous ascents of Mt Kilimanjaro.
He holds an MBA, health degree, health, safety, environment, security and risk management qualifications, and has extensive senior management experience.
Roger is a resident of both Tanzania and Australia. His strongest motivation is to share technical expertise and develop ecologically sustainable partnerships in developing countries. Roger shares Joseph’s vision to showcase the very best that Tanzania has to offer in a safe and ecologically sustainable way.
